Youth Voice: A Conversation with Axel Pecero

This past August, Open Doors Youth Council member Axel Pecero was detained by ICE while attending an Open Doors training and youth council meeting in Burbank, California. Today, he is still forcibly held in an ICE facility while awaiting a decision from the judge on his fate.

Axel is a former foster youth and a current youth advocate in multiple capacities. Recently, he shared his story in two articles by The Imprint to discuss the unfortunate circumstances that contributed to his current status.

As an Open Doors contributor and champion, we want to share Axel’s story and highlight his passion for doing the work he does as a youth advocate.

Open Doors continues to stay in communication with Axel during this time and plans to support him as much as we can through this scary and uncertain process.
